"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2013."

Still in Sydney. Time out from a hectic week. All you wanted to do was see the sharks at the aquarium. You were transfixed. Home soon my darling heart.

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2013."

Tired little eyes. It's been a big week in the big city. Exhibition openings and festivities and once again you've been such an angel. I love having breakfast with you in cute Paddington alley way cafes.

I'm playing along with the beautiful Jodi. Check her out!

On the road... again.

From barren bush lands to chaotic cityscapes, we have seen it all lately. The stark contrast of this amazing country as we travel up and down the east coast for exhibition season. Amongst the endless emails, phone calls, scheduling and packing I feel so blessed to be able to share these experiences with my children (Ba'il 3 years old and 33 week womb child).

Packed in amongst the boxes of artwork and artefacts in the back of the Prado, Ba'il stares out the window watching the landscape change as we travel south. Once we hit civilisation we delight in the small things such as a rainbow coloured car wash. He attends exhibition openings and theatre performances with me. All dressed up in his 'city clothes'. This is the part of my job that I love. It's not always peaches and cream trust me.

In one month we will travel over 5000km together, from remote Cape York community to the shining lights of Sydney. I learn the fine art of compromising with a 3 year old - hanging exhibitions and then playing on city playgrounds. I become a master of detecting signs of tantrums and tiredness as I just can't afford to use my energy arguing. We rest together at night in the same bed. Exhausted yet satisfied. Tomorrow we start our journey down to Sydney for the last of the exhibition run before our newest family member arrives in early October. We will trade the packed Prado for crowded airports - which Ba'il is thrilled about. I'm going to make this trip extra special - it will be the last trip of just him and me.

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2013."

Lately the whole solo travelling parent, full time work, pregnant perfectionist has had its exhausting moments for me but you are just the most divine well behaved boy to travel with. I am so thankful and fortunate to be able to bring you to work with me. August for us is jam packed with exhibitions and you've well and truly had your share of opening nights and theatre performances lately.

This week's portrait is of you with your Nonno - eyes glued to the Aurukun dancers for the opening of the Kinship exhibition in Cairns, just one of the many we attended together during the week. Next week we are off to Sydney, my travelling exhibition amigo.

31 & 32/52

"A portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2013."

Is it just me or is time speeding up?
I missed week 31 so I'll include it in with this week's portrait.

31/52 - enjoying homemade cupcakes under our big eucalyptus tree. A favourite place of ours. It's 'winter' time and the lawn is still iridescent green and you are shirtless at midday.

32/52 - A weekend of camping at Black Mountain Unplugged. A wee folk festival in the Cape York wilderness. It was just lovely. As you woke in the tent on Saturday morning you declared loudly "I love camping SO much." We all do, especially with crisp morning cuddles in the tent.

Visit the lovely Jodi to play along. Also many thanks to the beautiful lady for posting about our nature mail

Over the next month I'll be travelling... a lot. Living out of my suitcase and missing my home. I will fly the east coast of Australia ensuring that this exhibition season is executed absolutely perfectly. I will still be stopping by here to share my journeys. After this month and a bit, I look forward to putting my feet up and welcoming our wonderful womb child into the world. Stay tuned. x

River Dreaming - Spring Simplicities

Even though it's been a while since I've done a River Dreaming post... I have certainly had no shortage of dreams or inspirations. I just wish I had more hours in the day. I've been loving subtle bursts of yellow and orange. Actually I think I am becoming addicted to yellow. Up here in Cape York the wattle and mango trees are starting to flower marking a sure sign that spring is on her way and splashing yellow tones all over the landscape.

Lately I've been longing to -
- get out in the sunshine and do some gardening
- start work again on our top shed project so we have a cosy space for the arrival of our spring baby
- go camping and sleep under the stars with my boys
- start designing our very own gypsy wagon for our river nest
- have a long over due dinner party with all my beautiful girlfriends who I haven't seen in months!

Hopefully these simple pleasures will manifest soon enough.
